Hello and welcome to Infinite Pages. I meant to put up a post before I went away for a bit but time got away from me and I just totally forgot. One of these days, I might actually remember to look at my calendar and planned posts before it’s a week to late to do anything about it, but that’s apparently not now. Go ahead, take a minute and hit the comments, give me the weirdest guess where you think I’ve been! Don’t worry, I’ll wait. Was I planning to overthrow Voldemort as the next major villain? Did our town get overrun with zombies and only being read to would stop their murderous urges? ….We good? You’re done? Okay! I guess the major news is that we have moved to another city in the same state – which puts my physical address on hold for a bit, but my contact page is always still available.
This year has been running by so fast, I can’t believe that it is already the middle of September. However, the good news is that means we are rapidly approaching the spooky season, with many good creepy books that we can look at. Let’s be honest with each other, our place is already running in spooky season mode. There’s July 4 and then summer ends at like August 21 and then it’s spooky season. That’s how it works, right?
It has been one wild ride. I found out that I own what felt like 5 billion books and a couple hundred pounds of yarn. And that was all before we packed up the writing stuff and clothes! The biggest thing we had to worry about was making sure that our dog made the move okay. He’s always lived in one place his entire life, so this was going to be a big change. And since my wife has lived in that town her whole life, and I have for the past 10 years, it was going to be big on everyone.
Above are some photos from before the big move or while we were getting ready. We had a lot of stuff to go through and decide what to do on. That meant a lot of trips down to the trash dump to get rid of stuff. I could have done without taking that one trip at 3 in the morning when it was starting to sprinkle rain, but my wife insisted. The last night we were there, we didn’t have sheets on the bed, just pillows and a blanket for each of us. Our big dog wouldn’t even LOOK at us the entire night! We think the poor thing thought he wasn’t going with us or something. He did at least enjoy driving around to get trash bags then a tub then some tape then some last minute forgotten other things. Coming over here, I ended up driving our car, but the seat wouldn’t move forward enough so I ended up having to drive with a big stuffed giraffe behind me. I told Amanda if I got pulled over I was 100% diving in the passenger seat and letting the cops think the possessed stuffie was driving. She didn’t find that as funny as I did!
In case we needed more proof that the dog was not enjoying this process, we tried to go through some older clothes in a suitcase we found, and quickly learned that was not going to be a thing we were going to do. Our 60 pound lab mix decided to curl up right on top of the clothes, as if making sure we couldn’t go without him. The big day came a lot faster than anyone imagined it would and soon we were packing up our stuff into a U-Haul truck. It was sad seeing our room go from full of our stuff and bookshelves down to nothing left but a couple little things by the end of the day that were going in the car with me. Little Man has always been one to want to do what we call hiding – he wants to be under something or between things all the time. He’s done this since day one when he was a very VERY little fella. He found himself a nice spot in the new place, right between the couch and ottoman. They are both very plush and when they’re set up right they leave just enough gap to hide in.
Now that we have settled in, it’s been great. We spent a bit of time relaxing and then doing some work to catch up on what we missed while moving. We are closer to my mom so it’s been a lot easier to go see her and help her when she needs us. Plus the library here has a HUGE selection of books to pick up. It was so wonderful to go through and pick up some books and see all the different choices we never had in the small little town we lived in. But now that we are settled in, I can’t wait to stay back in touch with you all and keep reading amazing books!
